Ohio’s Fairs Queen Lara Staples

This year’s Fair Parade will be held on Opening Day, Tuesday August 16th.  Kick-off will take place at 6:00 PM from the new Harvey High School on Walnut Street.

Ohio’s Fairs Queen, Lara Staples, will serve as the 2011 Lake County Fair Parade Grand Marshal. Lara Staples is from Brown County and is the daughter of Tawnya and William Staples. She is currently enrolled as a senior at Western Brown High School, where she is very active in the FFA, is vice president of the national honor society, is the statistician for the girl’s varsity basketball team, and is a member of the student council.  She is also a third-year post-secondary student and the University of Cincinnati Clermont College, and she has managed to maintain a 4.0 GPA throughout her educational career.

Spending most of her time participating in the FFA, where she has competed at the national level in public speaking, dairy judging, and soil judging, won Grand Champion with her meat chickens two years running, and served her chapter by holding the positions of Student Advisor and Secretary.  In addition, Lara is currently serving the Ohio FFA Association as the state vice president, where she has spent the past eight months traveling the state of Ohio to conduct camp sessions, chapter visit leadership workshops, leadership nights, and present motivational speeches.  Along with her school and community activities, Lara is a member of the Brown County Canine Renegades 4-H Club, where she shows a Doberman pinscher and a Corgi/Lab Mix. 

She has won many Grand Champion titles with her dogs at local dog shows and has competed at state fair with her dogs for six consecutive years.  She just recently finished serving her second term as Junior Fair Board President and her fourth year in the Junior Fair Board Dog Department. Lastly, she is an active member of the WIRED Ministries youth group at West Union Bible Baptist Church.  She plans to graduate from Western Brown High School on May 27, 2011 and further her education at either the Ohio State University, or Ohio Christian University, where she plans to major in an
Agricultural field.
